Denison University offers its students a challenging curriculum of the highest quality in the liberal arts and sciences. Through abundant and diverse co-curricular pursuits, Denison students are also provided with valuable opportunities for personal growth and improvement. At Denison, academic achievement is emphasized, and development of leadership potential is encouraged.
For all student-athletes at DU, participation in intercollegiate sports is an integral part of their overall educational experience. Athletic teams at Denison are consistently competitive on the conference and national levels. The tradition of excellence associated with Denison athletic programs is due, in part, to the winning heritage which has been established over more than a century of intercollegiate competition. More importantly, however, the success of these programs can be measured by the preparation they have given student-athletes who, after graduation from Denison, go on to become organizational leaders, outstanding citizens and true team players among their professional peers.
Denison's strong winning tradition is alive and well today. Since the formation of the 10-team North Coast Athletics Conference in 1984, Denison has captured a conference record 16 All-Sports trophies in addition to their 142 total conference championships.
The university is committed to a broad-based program of intercollegiate athletics, sponsoring 23 varsity sports -- 12 for women and 11 for men. Over the past decade, more than a two-thirds of these sports at Denison have been represented in the NCAA's national rankings, postseason tournaments or championship meets. Denison's swimming & diving program has won five NCAA Division III national championships and seven programs (women's soccer, field hockey, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's cross country, men's swimming & diving and women's swimming & diving) have logged top-eight national finishes.
Denison's athletes are also serious students, and the university boasts 49 NCAA Postgraduate Scholars. The NCAA program, which recognizes achievement in the classroom as well as in athletics, provides $7500 scholarships for postgraduate study to top scholar-athletes at all levels.
An NCAA Division III institution, Denison is not permitted to offer athletic scholarships. The college instead figures financial aid for athletes on the same basis as it does for every other Denison student.
