Denison wins seesaw battle with Anderson
The Denison baseball scored a run in the top of the sixth to break a 5-5 tie and tacked on an insurance run in the ninth en route to 7-5 victory over Anderson University on Thursday morning from Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
The Ravens held a 2-1 edge after the first full inning of play. After the two squads posted a pair of runs in fourth inning, Denison regained a 5-4 edge thanks to a two-run fifth frame. Anderson posted a tally in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 5-5, but single runs in the sixth and ninth innings helped the Big Red earn their fourth-consecutive win.
Freshman Danny Kraus (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) logged three hits and scored twice to pace the Big Red offense, while seniors Park Smith (Warren, N.J./The Pingry School) and Aidan Lucas (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) each recorded two hits. Smith hit a double and scored two runs, while Lucas knocked in a run.
Rookie Phil Seay (Brooklyn, N.Y./Berkeley Carroll School) picked up his second win in as many days against Anderson. Seay pitched five innings, allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits and struck out two. Junior Freddy Marino (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) earned his first save of the season after scattering three hits in four innings out of the bullpen.
Denison improves to 7-3 on the season and will take on 17th-ranked Wheaton (Mass.) on Friday morning from Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
