PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.--  Denison baseball opened their spring trip to Florida with a pair of losses to Arcadia, 5-4 and Susquehanna, 6-4.

Against Arcadia, Denison took a 3-2 lead when Eric Zmuda slapped a two-run single up the middle, scoring Noah Hahn and Phil Papaioannou.

In the seventh, DU extended their lead after Tucker Davison drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Vince Walker.

In the eighth, a two-run double by Arcadia's Phil Pierfy tied the game at 4-4.  In the ninth, the Big Red loaded the bases but were unable to plate a run. The Knights completed the comeback in the bottom half of the frame when Luke Hohenstein's walk-off single gave Arcadia the 5-4 victory.

Zack Huarte got the no-decision after allowing only two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of work. Connor Hanrahan suffered his first loss of the season. Offensively, Papaioannou led the Big Red with two hits and Zmuda drove in a pair of runs.

Against Susquehanna, the Big Red took advantage of two errors in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Susquehanna capitalized on Denison defensive miscues, plating four runs to take a 6-3 lead into the eighth. DU fought back as Tanner Johnson hit a triple down the right field line setting up a successful sacrifice fly by Walker.

In the ninth, Denison loaded the bases, but Aaron Zechman got Jack Blanchard to ground out to shortstop, ending the potential comeback.

Perley Provost suffered his first loss of the season as he went seven innings without an earned run while striking out seven. Tanner Johnson and Zmuda both had a pair of hits.

The Big Red returns to action on Monday, March 13 against Amherst College. First pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
