DELAWARE, Ohio—No. 27 Denison opened their four-game series with Ohio Wesleyan by splitting the opener.  The Battling Bishops took the opener, 9-1 but Denison held on for an 11-10 victory in game two.

The Big Red pounded out 16 hits in the second game and they needed every one of them.  After jumping out to a 7-0 lead through two and a half frames, Ohio Wesleyan chipped away, scoring one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Denison's five-run first was aided by two Battling Bishop errors.  Tanner Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game.  Phil Papaioannou drew a bases-loaded walk and Noah Hahn's sac fly to left scored Eric ZmudaJoseph Maydwell followed with a RBI groundout and Brian McAuliffe doubled to left-center to score Papaioannou.

In the second, Papaioannou's single to right scored Jack Blanchard.  Another run came in the third thanks to a ground out by Sam Frazen that scored Maydwell who led off the inning with a double.

Denison led 10-6 heading to the bottom of the seventh.  OWU made it a three-run game with a two-out bases loaded single.  Denison reliever Danny Brackman got Aaron Strausbaugh to strike out, ending the threat.

In the eighth, McAullife delivered once again with a double to left-center, scoring Maydwell and giving Denison an 11-7 lead.  Andrew Bruss took the mound in the eighth and surrendered three runs to make it an 11-10 contest.

In the bottom of the ninth, Michael Blatchford led off with a single and Strausbaugh reached on an error with one out.  Bruss retired the next two Bishops to lock up the split.

The win went to Denison starter Perley Provost (4-3) who pitched the first five innings, allowing five earned runs off of 10 hits.  OWU starter Chris Punka (2-4) took the loss.

McAullife was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.  Eric Zmuda and Evan Flax also had three-hit games.

In game one, a six-run fourth inning off of Denison starter Zack Huarte sealed Denison's fate.  Chuck Kuhn's bases-loaded double was the backbreaker.

Huarte (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season.  He pitched four innings and allowed eight runs off of six hits.  The win went to Kevin Zullo (4-4) who went the distance, scattering six hits and one run while striking out seven.

Games three and four of the series have been moved to Sunday (April 30) at 12 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio due to the inclement weather that is forecasted for Saturday.
