FREDERICKSBURG, Va.-- Four players scored in double figures as Denison improved to 2-0 after a 90-70 victory over No. 23 Cabrini on Saturday night at the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Denison led by 11 at halftime thanks to a 10-for-20 showing from 3-point range in the first half. Matt Doyle aided the Big Red's fast start with 11 points in the first half. Claude Chandonnet added nine points from behind the arc.
DU was 15-for-31 from the field in the first half (48.4%) and they posted an identical showing in the second half. Powered by Maxwell Siwik's career-high 19 points, 12 of which came in the second half, Denison completed the 20-point win over the nationally ranked Cavaliers.
While Siwik paced Denison with 19, Doyle followed with 13 points and seven rebounds. Fred Brou scored 12 points and Chandonnet ended with 12. Sheldon Freeman was active on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds in only 14 minutes of action.
As a team, Denison outrebounded Cabrini 46-36. The Cavaliers shot 34 percent from the field and were 6-of-25 from 3-point range. Cabrini was led in scoring by Keith Blassingale's 25 points.
Denison will face the winner of the Randolph-Mary Washington game on Sunday, Nov. 19 at a time to be determined. The game will be played at Mary Washington.
