GRANVILLE, Ohio--  It was a day for celebration as Denison men's basketball cruised to a 90-59 victory over Allegheny on Senior and Alumni Day from Livingston Gymnasium.

With over 60 alumni in attendance including the 1968 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship squad, the Big Red put on a show in front of the home crowd.  Senior center Johnny Vernasco started the game with a thunderous dunk jumpstarting Denison to a quick lead.

In the last four games against Allegheny, the Big Red has been mad-bombers from beyond the arc, averaging 16.3 triples per game.  Today, Denison tied a program record with 17 made 3-pointers.  In the first half, DU went 9-for-18 from long range as Matt Gerics sparked the bench-bunch by going 3-of-4 from deep. Maxwell Siwik, who entered the day as the North Coast Athletic Conference's sixth-leading scorer, went 3-of-5 from 3-point land to give him a team-high 13 points at the break.

Denison held a 46-30 lead at the intermission as 25 of the team's 46 points came from the bench.  Overall, the Denison bench outscored Allegheny's 25-2 in the opening 20 minutes of action.

In the second half, Allegheny's Jordan Rawls, who finished with a game-high 28 points, cut the deficit to 13 on a 3-pointer with 13:30 to play.  That is as close as the Gators would get.  Over the final 10 minutes, Denison closed out the game on a 28-11 run to lock up the 31-point victory.

Five players scored in double figures, led by Siwik's 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting.  Matt Doyle followed with 16 points in 25 minutes.  Gerics scored 14 points and tied for the team lead with four assists.  Sophomore Fred Brou was active, scoring 12 points in 12 minutes highlighted by an alley-oop lob from Gerics in the second half.  Garrett Collier totaled 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 19 minutes.

The Big Red shot 46 percent from the field and was 17-of-36 from beyond the arc.  Allegheny shot 42 percent but was just 6-of-25 from deep.  Rawls scored 28 points and had seven rebounds in 33 minutes.

Denison improves to 12-11 and 8-8 in the NCAC while Allegheny falls for the 13th straight time, dropping to 5-18 overall.

The Big Red will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14 when they travel to Hiram for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against the Terriers.
