GRANVILLE, Ohio—After round one of the Ted Barclay Invitational, Denison sits in second place, only four strokes off the lead. Ohio Wesleyan leads with 297. DU is second at 301 and Ohio Dominican is third at 302. Wooster (318), Adrian (324) and Hiram (347) round out the field.
The Big Red was led by senior Jonathan Taylor who fired Saturday's best round with an even-par 71. Taylor logged three birdies on the day. His first came on No. 5, a 396-yard par-4. After making the turn he birdied No. 10, a 540-yard par-5. He also posted a three on No. 16, a 330-yard par-4.
Knox Montgomery followed with a 5-over par, 76. He closed out his front nine with a birdie on No. 9.
Denison's top-four scores were rounded out by Guille Henegar and Christian Early who posted 77s. Henegar also birdied No. 9 while Early chalked up 11 pars. Nick Brodbeck was Denison's fifth score at 79.
The Big Red returns to Denison Golf Club on Sunday (April 9) for the final round of the Ted Barclay Invitational. A shotgun start will be held at 9:30 a.m.
