No. 5 Maroons shut out #33 Big Red

Jamie McDonald
Jamie McDonald

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Fifth-ranked Chicago picked up a 9-0 win over No. 33 Denison on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kevin Brown was involved in the two closest decisions of the day. Alongside doubles partner Jamie McDonald dropped an 8-5 decision to Tyler Raclin and Max Hawkins, 8-5, in the top doubles flight. Raclin and Hawkins are currently ranked sixth in Division III and are the top team in the Central Region.

Besides having two of their three doubles teams ranked nationally, half of the Maroons' singles line-up were featured in the last national ranking. At first singles, Brown faced off against 22nd-ranked Nicolas Chua. After edging the DU sophomore 7-6 in the first set, Chua doubled up Brown 6-3 to earn the point. McDonald also suffered a straight-set loss to 41st-ranked Charlie Pei at the second flight (6-1, 6-0), while freshman Danish Siddiquie fell to 14th-ranked Peter Leung (6-1, 6-3) at No. 4 singles.

Denison falls to 0-3 on the year, while Chicago improves to a perfect 5-0. The Big Red returns to action in two weeks when they travel to Michigan for matches at Hope (March 4) and Kalamazoo (March 5). Both matches are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
