GLENDALE, Calif. -- The 35th-ranked Denison men's tennis team opened up their spring break trip with a 9-0 victory over Occidental College on Monday at Scholl Canyon Tennis Club.

The sophomore duo of Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein shutout Isaiah Bird and Cameron Coe at the top doubles flight. Owen Smith and Jamie McDonald followed with an 8-2 victory over Trevor Brown and Will Poma at the second doubles. At the third flight, Ryan Issa and Colin Bahin edged Isa Kibira and Ivan Derrick 8-5.

Brown and Costas Alevizopoulos each picked up three-set victories at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Smith was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at the third flight, while Burstein won in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 5 singles. After a tightly contested 7-6 (7-5) decision in the first set, Bahin secured the win with a 6-2 win in the second set. McDonald earned a default victory at second singles.

Denison (2-4) returns to action today (Tuesday) at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
