CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Division I Cleveland State University handed the Big Red a 5-2 loss on Sunday night at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
The Vikings grabbed the doubles point after winning the second and third doubles flights. Since the point was decided at the completion of No. 2 doubles, the two teams did not finish the top-flight match. In singles play, senior Owen Smith and freshman Danish Siddiquie collected the Big Red's two victories with a pair of three-set decisions. Siddiquie won the first set of his match at fifth singles via 6-4 score before dropping the second 6-1. The freshman won the tiebreaker via 10-3 score. Smith dropped his first set, but rallied to take the next two 6-3 and 10-5.
The Big Red (6-8) will play their first of three-consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference West Division matches on Tuesday (April 11) when they travel to Springfield, Ohio to take on Wittenberg. Match time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
