ERIE, Pa. – Denison men's tennis earned a 9-0 sweep of Allegheny College on Friday night at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Pa.
In No. 1 doubles, the combo of Kevin Brown and Jamie McDonald were pushed to the brink by Allegheny's Jai Redkar and Cooper Miller, but the Big Red prevailed and picked up an 8-6 victory. Mitchell Thai and Patrick McGuigan took an 8-1 win over the Gators' Colton Johnson Taylor and Zach Anderson on No. 2 doubles, while Blake Burstein and Danish Siddiquie defeated Niall Kneerim and Mike Siegel, 8-4, to win No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, DU refused to surrender a set, winning all six matches over the Gators. Vlad Rotnov opened No. 1 singles play with 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jai Redkar of Allegheny, and McDonald posted the same score in No. 2 singles, defeating Johnson Taylor in back-to-back sets.
In the second set of No. 5 singles, Miller gave the Gators their strongest chance of the night, but Denison's McGuigan finalized the victory, winning 6-2, 6-4.
The Big Red will return to the Denison Tennis Courts on Saturday, Mar. 3 when they host the Hornets of Kalamazoo College at 10 a.m. in Granville.
