The Denison men's track & field team kicked off the indoor season at the Tiffin University Alumni Open on Saturday in Tiffin, Ohio. The events for the meet were not scored.
Junior sprinter Quenton Richards led the Big Red with a pair of top-6 performances. Richards' day was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 60-meter dash after crossing the line in 7.15. The junior's fastest time came in the prelims when he clocked in at 7.14. Richards also placed sixth in the 200 dash with a time of 23.86.
Sophomore Ethan George placed second in the 400-meter hurdles after finishing the race in 59.57, while junior Ian Mulmat posted a time of 58.08 in the 400-meter dash en route to a fourth-place finish.
In the field events, the Big Red had four athletes compete in the triple jump. Junior Wallace Branche paced the quartet with a fourth-place finish after combining for a time of 44'8.75", while sophomore Lester Harris was fifth with a mark of 43'4.50". First-year jumpers Church Humphreys (39'5.25") and Deven Shakya (38'6.00") placed ninth and 11th, respectively. The freshmen duo of Humphreys and Shakya also competed in the long jump. Humphreys was 11th with a leap of 19'1.25", while Shakya finished 12th with a mark of 16'7.00".
Freshman thrower Nicolas Valdiviezo rounded out the meet with a pair of 14th-place performances. Valdiviezo recorded a mark of 28'5.50" in the weight throw and 26'10.50" in the shot put.
Denison will return to action on January 24 when they host the annual Denison Lid-Lifter at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.
