The Big Red men's track & field team scored 71 points en route to a fourth-place finish at the Fighting Scots Invitational hosted by the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon.
The highest scoring event was the triple jump where Denison had three athletes earn points. Junior Wallace Branche paced the DU trio with a victory following a leap of 44'4.75". Freshmen Deven Shakya and Church Humphreys also added points in the event with fourth (37'2.50") and fifth (36'11.50") place finishes, respectively. The duo of Shakya and Humphreys also scored points in other events. Humphreys took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 18'8.50", while Shakya finished sixth in the high jump after clearing 5'4.25".
DU also racked up 12 points in the 800-meter run after landing two athletes in the top-4. Mitch Keller was second in the event after crossing the finish line in 2:01.46. His teammate, sophomore Zach Cove, placed fourth with a time of 2:03.03. Junior Sam Beech also had a runner-up performance in the 5,000-meter event (15:46.79), while classmate Lucas Romick was third in the 200 dash with a time of 24.25.
Senior Andy Shaw finished third in the shot put with a heave of 42'3.50", while Patrick Dunn and Zach Munn were fourth and fifth in the 3,000 run (9:19.05) and mile (4:45.55), respectively. In the 4x400 relay, the grouping of Ryan Keller, Mitch Keller, Chris Todd and Cove placed second with a time of 3:35.69.
Wittenberg won the event with 138 points, while Oberlin placed second with 97 tallies. The host Fighting Scots were third with 89 points followed by Denison and Kenyon (62).
The Big Red returns to action next Saturday when they host the Bob Shannon Invitational at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville. Events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
