The Denison men's track and field team captured three event titles and logged seven top-3 performances on their way to a third-place finish at the Fighting Scots Invitational on Saturday in Wooster, Ohio.
Seniors Sam Beech and Mitch Keller and junior Zach Cove notched the Big Red's three wins Saturday afternoon. Cove and freshman Niall Clancey went 1-2 in mile, DU's first victory of the day. The junior paced the field with a time of 4:29.05, while Clancey finished in 4:30.78.
Occupying the top-two spots in 800-meter run were Keller and sophomore Zach Munn. Keller broke the tape in 2:01.74, while Munn followed in 2:03.55. Denison's final victory came in the 3,000-meter event where Beech set the pace with a time of 9:21.41. Freshman Jorge De La Torre followed in fifth place at 9:36.42.
Denison also took second in both relay events. The grouping of Quenton Richards, Lucas Romick, Michael Bonebrake and Alex Chin opened the men's running events with a runner-up finish in the 4x200 (1:35.59). In addition to his second-place finish in the 4x200, Richards also posted a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25.
In the final race of the meet, the 4x400 foursome of Cove, Clancey, Munn and Keller placed second after clocking in at 3:35.16. Freshman Isaac Reed rounded out the scoring with a fourth-place performance in the 60 hurdles after tying his PR of 9.45.
Wittenberg won the team title with 131 points, while host Wooster finished second with 123 tallies. Denison placed third with 74 points, while Oberlin (72) and Kenyon (30) rounded out the team standings.
DU returns to action when they host both the Bob Shannon Invitational and the All-Ohio Combined Events Championship next weekend (Feb. 6-7).
