The Denison men's track and field team posted three event victories at its annual Last Chance Meet held on Friday at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.
Individually, junior Zach Cove and freshman David Carter won their respective events. Cove finished first in the mile with a winning time of 4:26.42. Senior Mitch Keller took seventh in the event after crossing the line in 4:29.04.
Carter, who has competed since suffering an injury in the Denison Lid-Lifter, was victorious in the triple jump with a combined leap of 42'5.25". Sophomore Church Humphreys placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 39'0.50". Humphreys also had a fifth-place showing in the pole vault (11'0.25").
The third and final victory of the night came in the last event of the meet, 4x400 relay, where the grouping of Keller, sophomore Zach Munn, freshman Niall Clancey and Cove posted a time of 3:37.74. Denison opened the running events with a third-place finish in the 4x200 relay. The foursome of Quenton Richards, Lucas Romick, Michael Bonebrake and Isaac Reed combined for a time of 1:37.28.
In addition to their showings in the 4x200, Richards and Reed also had top-8 performances in other events. Richards won his heat and placed sixth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.13. Reed finished eighth in the hurdles after crossing the line in 9.12. Freshman Jorge De La Torre and junior Jake Dennie rounded out the top-8 performances by going 4-5 in the 3000-meter run. De La Torre clocked in at 9:31.05, while Dennie was right behind in 9:34.35.
The Big Red returns to action next weekend when they travel to Gambier, Ohio for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship. The two-day event will begin on Friday, March 4 and run through Saturday, March 5.
