Men in 6th after day one at NCAC meet

The Denison men's track and field team compiled 13 points on the first day of the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship held at the Barrett A. Toan Track in Gambier, Ohio.

Freshman David Carter paced the Big Red with a second-place showing in the triple jump after recording a combined leap of 44'7.50" in his first jump of the finals. The Big Red's other five points came in the final event of the night, the distance medley relay. The foursome of Mitch Keller, Michael Bonebrake, Zach Munn and Zach Cove finished fourth in the event with a time of 10:30.35.

Senior Quenton Richards qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash with a seventh-place showing in preliminaries on Friday night. Richards earned a spot in Saturday's final with a time of 7.17.

Wabash leads the nine-team field with 57 points, while Ohio Wesleyan sits second with 43 tallies. Allegheny is third at 23, while DePauw (19), Wooster (16), Denison (13), Wittenberg (12), Kenyon (8) and Oberlin (4) make up the rest of the team standings.

Denison will close out the 2016 NCAC Indoor meet on Saturday in Gambier, Ohio. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., while running events are slated to begin at 2:15 p.m.
