Denison men compete at Williams College

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Denison men's cross country made the 630-mile trek to Williams College where they were one of 27 competitors at the 2017 Purple Valley Classic.

The meet, which featured 10 teams in the most recent United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings, was set in the scenic but challenging Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.

Denison's top finisher in the men's 8K was sophomore Benjamin Foster who placed 84th out of 324 entrants.  Foster covered the course in 27:58.1 for a 5:38 pace.  Jack Marchetti followed in 151st with a time of 28:51.8.  Clayton Watters took third for DU and 226th overall in 29:44.1. Fourth and fifth for Denison was turned in by Adam Cromwell (30:06.2) and Rhys Fitschen-Brown (30:22.2).  The lineup was rounded out by Kenny Connelly (30:29.5) and Jeremy Bloomfield (30:49.0).

DU placed 22nd with 638 points.  Geneseo was the winner with 87 points and was led by the overall champion, Isaac Garcia-Cassani, who set the winning pace with a time of 25:50.2.

In the men's 5K race, Denison's Patrick Manglano placed 52nd with a time of 18:31.4 and Henri Hegemier was 77th in 21:38.0.
