Wooster men's cross country holds off Big Red

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison men's cross country suffered an 11-point loss in their dual meet versus the College of Wooster at Infirmary Mound Park on Thursday afternoon.  Wooster finished with 24 points thanks to five scores in the top-eight.  Denison ended with 35 points.

Despite the narrow defeat, Denison's Benjamin Foster was the overall winner of the race after completing the 4K course in 13:51.8.  Foster posted a 5:34.1 per mile pace and won the event by just over nine seconds.

Wooster's Brian Lief followed in second place in 14:00.9 while David Westcott and Jackson Feinknopf placed third and fourth, respectively.

For Denison, Jack Marchetti checked in fifth place in 14:22.0.  Clayton Watters placed sixth overall with a time of 14:27.7.

The Big Red's fourth and fifth scorers were Zach Munn and Kenny Connelly who placed 11th and 12th, respectively.  Munn covered the course in 14:58.3 while Connelly followed right behind in 14:59.6.

Denison's sixth finisher was Rhys Fitschen-Brown in 15:10.2 while Patrick Manglano took up the No. 7 slot in 16:59.6.  Also competing for DU was first-year Henri Hegmier who ended in 26th place with a time of 17:25.4.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 14) when they compete at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble.  That is a prelude to the 2017 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, which will also take place at Oberlin College on Oct. 28.
