CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Denison crushed four home runs in a doubleheader sweep at Mount St. Joseph on Thursday. The Big Red won the opener in five innings, 13-1, and took the finale 7-2.

Junior Lauren Secaras opened the game-one scoring with her 12th career long ball that brought home classmate Sarah Herold. After a scoreless second, DU added a pair of runs in the top of the third frame. In front 4-1 heading into the fourth, Denison erupted for seven runs to build a 10-run advantage. Freshman Emilie Fisher got things going with a one-out double to the left center gap that scored Mckinly Vazquez and Kerry Hager. Fisher came around to score two batters later on a base hit up the middle by Laura Bagan. Ricki Asher drove in a pair with an infield single to short before senior Ryan Lee emptied the bases with a two-run homer. That home run marks the fifth of Lee's career. Secaras and Bagan brought in the final two runs of the game with a sacrifice fly to right and single, respectively.

Herold improved to 3-2 inside the circle after scattering two hits and striking out three in five innings of one-run ball. Asher continued to swing a hot bat going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Secaras drove in three and scored three times in a 2-for-2 performance at the dish. Bagan, Fisher and Lee all finished with two hits, while Herold, Bagan and Vazquez each touched the dish twice.

In the nightcap, Bagan broke a scoreless tie with her second homer of the season. With one out and runners at first and second, the sophomore left the yard for the fourth time in her career to give DU a 3-0 lead. The Lions trimmed one off the deficit in the bottom of the frame, but another three spot in the fourth pushed the score to 6-1. Hager touched the dish on a wild pitch. Lee added to the lead with a SAC fly to center. Bagan drove in her fourth run of the game with a double to left center.

Mount St. Joseph scored a single run in the fifth, but a one-out solo home run by Herold set the final score. The homer was the third of Herold's career and first this season. The junior finished with two hits, two runs and an RBI, while Bagan logged two hits and knocked in four runs. Asher extended her current hitting streak to six with a base hit in game two. Senior Erin Laswell (3-1) went the distance allowing two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

The Big Red improves to 9-5 with the sweep, while the Lions fall to 8-6. Denison will be back in action on Saturday (March 25) when they host Defiance. Game one of the twinbill is slated to start at 1 p.m.
