GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison and Otterbein split a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday night. The Big Red took game one, 7-2 and lost the nightcap, 6-2.

Tied 1-1 in heading into the bottom of the fifth inning of game one, Denison catcher Lindsey Clemson led off with a single to left.  She advanced to second on a wild pitch and starting pitcher Sarah Herold drew a walk putting runners on first and second with no outs.

Emilie Fisher followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Clemson.  Lauren Secaras followed with an opposite-field double to the gap in right-center that cleared the bases.  That ended the day for Otterbein starter Gabby Johnson.  Cardinal reliever Anna Edwards opened with a walk to Amanda Howell. A passed ball with Laura Bagan at the plate moved Secaras and Howell into scoring position.  Otterbein recorded the first out of the inning on a fielder's choice by Bagan whose hard-hit ball to first caused Megan Garner to throw the plate to cut down Secaras.

Denison worked one more run across in the inning when Howell scored from third base on a ball-four wild pitch with Charlotte Happel at the plate.

With the lead, Herold settled in, retiring Otterbein in order in the sixth.  In the bottom of the sixth, another wild pitch scored Herold from third base and an RBI single to center plated Secaras with DU's seventh run.

Otterbein scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, setting the final at 7-2.  Herold went the distance, scattering seven runs in 7.0 innings pitched.  She struck out three and only walked one.  Johnson took the loss for Otterbein. In 4.0 innings pitched she allowed four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Secaras was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.  Howell was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Fisher was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In game two, Otterbein got to Denison starting pitcher Colleen Hoffman for five runs (three earned) in the first three innings. Meanwhile, Cardinal starter Rachael Owens was pitching a gem.  She held DU to one hit through 4.2 innings.  A double by Howell in the bottom of the sixth scored Secaras with Denison's first run to make it a 5-1 game.

Trailing 6-1 entering the home half of the seventh, Lindsay Clemson singled to left, scoring Happel from second.  Clemson was able to advance to second when Otterbein's left fielder misplayed the ball.  With two out and Clemson on second, Herold grounded out to the shortstop to end the game.

With the split, Denison moved to 5-3 while Otterbein improved to 13-5.  The Big Red open North Coast Athletic Conference play this Saturday (March 31) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio for a doubleheader with Ohio Wesleyan.
