GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's basketball suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to No. 9 Trine University, 58-41, to wrap up the 2017 Denison Classic at Livingston Gymnasium.

Despite the lead changing sides eight times throughout the contest and the Big Red only trailing by one at the half, 26-25, the Thunder held Denison to 3-of-12 shooting in the third quarter as they were outscored 12-6.

DU opened the third with back-to-back jumpers from sophomore Lauren Hofer, but seven turnovers resulted in buckets for Trine's Brandi Dawson and Shaely Duff, including a three-point play from Duff at the 4:28 mark to take a 35-29 lead.

Trailing 38-31 entering the fourth quarter, sophomore Addie Buzas countered a Dawson jumper with a lay-up at 9:01 to play, cutting the deficit back to seven, 40-33. Trine closed out the game on an 18-8 scoring run in which Dawson totaled eight of her game-high 17 points to give DU their first loss, 58-41.

Hofer led the Big Red with a career-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She also added seven rebounds. Senior Brittany Atkinson contributed seven points, while Lauren Longbrake chipped in six points off the bench. For the Thunder, Dawson led all scorers with 17 points and freshman Camille Lira totaled nine points.

Hofer was also named to the Denison Classic All-Tournament team for her combined 17 points and 11 rebounds over the last two games. Buzas joined Hofer with All-Tournament honors after she totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds on the weekend.

The Big Red will return to the hardwood this Tuesday, Nov. 21 when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Mount St. Joseph College at 5 p.m.
