OSTRANDER, Ohio-- Denison fired a second round 329 but came up just short, falling to Davenport University (Mich.) by two strokes at the Laura Bump Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Club.
Led by Anne Miller's varsity record round of 70 on Saturday, the Big Red entered the final round leading the field by four strokes. On Sunday, Davenport bested Denison by seven shots to take the team title. Denison placed second at 651 while Ohio Wesleyan checked in third at 660.
Miller was the tournament medalist with a 36-hole total of 150 (70, 80). Hannah Buzolits of Wooster was second at 153 (76, 77).
For Denison, Nicole Wetoska logged a top-10 finish with rounds of 79 and 85. Sophie Kollin matched Miller for the Big Red's low round of the day with an 80. She tied for 12th place at 168 (88, 80). Tina Berardi was right behind at 169 (85, 84) and Emmy Timberlake tied for 14th, also at 169 (82, 87).
The Big Red will compete at the Wooster Invitational next week (April 15-16) at Mohican Hills Golf Course.
