Lauren Adams scored once and had 3 caused turnovers against Vassar.
Lauren Adams scored once and had 3 caused turnovers against Vassar.

Vassar's 10-goal first half was enough to push the Brewers to a 16-11 win over Denison from Washburn Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Big Red entered the contest with a 2-0 record after season-opening wins over Adrian and Sewanee.  Denison's offense was there on Sunday against Vassar, but the duo of Dara Davis and Isabelle Goldstein would account for half of Vassar's scoring.

With 6:14 to play in the first half, Denison's Reid Hirschey scored her second goal of the contest off an assist by Piper Logan to trim the Vassar lead to one.  Davis would proceed to score three-straight goals over the final five minutes of the first half, sending the Brewers into the intermission with a 10-6 lead.

DU would open the second half with a goal from Erin Keller, but that would be as close as the Big Red would get over the final 27 minutes of play.

Lauren Adams led Denison in caused turnovers (3), and ground balls (4).  She also added one goal and two draw controls.  Molly Chapman led the team in points with two goals and two assists.  She also paced DU in draw controls with four.  Hirschey's three goals were a team-high and Erin Keller finished with two goals and three ground balls.  DU's scoring was rounded out by Elsie Humes, Claire Ludlow, and Adams.

DU outshot Vassar 29-27, but Vassar's Kate Pula finished with nine saves while playing all 60 minutes.  First-year goalie Ansley Gibson got the start for Denison in cage and finished with four saves in 30 minutes of action.  Laura Van Horn played the second half and ended with two saves while facing six shots on goal.

Denison will return to action on Wednesday (March 19) when they take on Colorado College in Colorado Springs at 6 p.m. EST.
