DU earns league win over DePauw

Molly Chapman is just 5 shy of 100 career goals after her 2 scores at DePauw.
Molly Chapman is just 5 shy of 100 career goals after her 2 scores at DePauw.

Denison's Claire Ludlow scored five of her career-high seven goals in the first half and that would be enough to propel the Big Red to a 20-8 victory over DePauw University from Greencastle, Ind.

The Tigers scored the first goal of the contest just 21 seconds into the first half, but that would be followed by a 5-0 Denison run that featured three goals by Ludlow and two by Molly Chapman.  Chapman's two scores got her to 95 goals for her career.  At the conclusion of the first half, Denison led 9-3 while outshooting DePauw, 24-9.  The Big Red also controlled 11 of the 13 draws taken in the first 30 minutes of play.

It was more of the same in the second half as Denison would outscore the home team 11-5.  In addition to Ludlow's seven goals, Reid Hirschey and Carol Allen both posted hat tricks.  Erin Keller ended with two goals, two assists, and four ground balls, while Chapman's line read two goals, three assists and a season-high 10 draw controls.  With 184 career points, Chapman is now tied for fourth-place in the DU record books.

Laura Van Horn played all 60 minutes in the cage for Denison.  She finished with three saves while facing 11 shots.  DePauw's Liz Hawkins posted nine saves on the afternoon.

The win improves Denison's record to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  DePauw drops to 3-6, and 2-2 in conference play.  DU will return to action on Wednesday (April 9) when they host Centre at 4:30 p.m.
