Win over Hiram clinches No. 3 seed in NCAC Tournament

Fourteen first half goals would be plenty as Denison rolled to an 18-2 win over Hiram College on Saturday afternoon.  The win clinches the No. 3 seed in next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, setting up a rematch with second-seeded Allegheny College on Wednesday (April 30) in Meadville, Pa.

The Big Red would score the first nine goals of the game in the opening 15 minutes of play as Claire Ludlow, Carol Allen, and Whitney Powel all opened with multiple goals during the run.

Overall, Allen and Powell would lead Denison with three goals apiece.  Reid Hirschey scored two goals and had one assist while Isabel Tumminello, Erin Keller, and Ludlow all finished with two scores.  Junior attack Molly Chapman scored one goal and had two assists.  That up's her career totals to 106 goals and 99 assists.  With her next assist she will become the fourth player in NCAC history to reach triple figures in both offensive categories.

The Big Red outshot the Terriers 42-6 and ended with 16 draw controls compared to six for the home team.  Lauren Adams had three caused turnovers and five ground balls while Hollis Hunsberger finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Ansley Gibson got the start in goal and finished with two saves in 60 minutes of work.  Hiram goalie Rebecca Greenhouse ended with 14 saves.

Denison will take its 11-4 overall record into next week's NCAC Tournament.  Wednesday's start time versus Allegheny will be determined soon.
