CLERMONT, Fla.—Denison opened Spring Break with an 8-7 win over Springfield College from the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

Denison trailed the Pride 7-6 after Shelby Corsano's free position goal with 12:29 to play.  The Big Red tied things up when Claudia Rafi found Leah Israel for the goal after an 8-meter attempt DU.

Springfield controlled the ensuing draw but quickly turned it back over to the Big Red.  That set up Claire Ludlow for what would prove to be the game-winning goal with 8:06 remaining.

Over the final eight minutes, Springfield attempted two shots.  The first, by Taylor Kane, sailed high and the second resulted in a save by Denison goalie Hannah Magarian.

The Pride had possession in the final minute of play but a turnover Kristen Steidler followed by a ground ball by DU's Colleen Muldoon sealed the win for Denison.

Ludlow paced Denison with three goals and one assist.  Israel scored twice and led the defense with four caused turnovers.  Halle Walsh scored one goal and had one assist while Maddy Heher and Virginia Hamilton each added one goal.

Reid Hirschey paced the squad with five ground balls while Grace Gavula followed with four.  Becca Jones got the start in goal and finished with one save in 30 minutes of action. Magarian played the second half and recorded two saves.

For Springfield, Gabby Anderson kept her team in the game by turning in 13 saves in 60 minutes between the pipes.  Ann Mahoney scored two goals and had four caused turnovers.  Corsano led Springfield with three goals and one assist.

Denison improves to 3-1 while Springfield drops to 2-2.  The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 when they take on Rensselaer at 4 p.m. from the National Training Center.
