GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Denison women's soccer played to a 0-0 draw with Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field in Granville as a part of Big Red Weekend on campus.
Outshooting the Ladies 26-10 for the match, the Big Red used their 11-6 shot advantage during the first half to tally three of the first five shots on the day, including a shot off a free kick from sophomore Kate Dannemiller that missed wide left of the goal at the 7:13 mark.
Denison received another opportunity in the 17th minute when Emma Phinney booted a shot from 45 yards out that was bobbled by Kenyon's goalie Jillian Countey, but eventually saved to keep the game tied at 0-0.
Looking to take the lead with four seconds remaining in the half, Abby King missed wide right to enter intermission with a scoreless effort.
Also dominating the shot ratio during the second half, 10-2, DU added three of the first four shots to open the half, including a shot from Maggie Armstrong that sailed just high over the crossbar.
In the 75th minute, the Big Red looked to find the net when Kelly O'Neill sent a cross inside the goal box to Riley Hammond, but the tip-in shot went just wide of the goal as both sides ended regulation in a scoreless tie.
Combining to outshoot the Ladies 5-2 in both overtimes, it appeared that the Big Red broke through in the 109th minute when a shot from Armstrong went under the arms of Kenyon's Countey, but just inches wide left of the goal. The tie was DU's first of the season, resulting in a record of 6-2-1. Kenyon moved to 4-2-3.
In goal, freshman Patil Tcholakian finished with five saves during 110 minutes of action, while KC's Countey tallied 11 saves in a full extra time effort.
The Big Red returns to action next Saturday, October 6 when they travel to Greencastle, Ind. for a 2:30 matchup with the Tigers of DePauw University.
