INDIANAPOLIS--  The 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championship is underway at the IU Natatorium and Denison sits in fifth place through four of 20 events with 56 team points.  They trail fourth-place Johns Hopkins by 30 points.

The Big Red had entries in two of the four finals that were held on Wednesday night.  In the 200 individual medley, sophomore KT Kustritz set a new varsity record with a second-place finish.  Her time of 2:00.55 broke the previous school record of 2:01.59 set by Michelle Howell in 2015 when she won the national championship in the event.  Kustritz' time was good for second place as Kenyon's Crile Hart posted a new national record in prelims (1:58.29). Hart returned with a winning time of 1:58.86 in the final.

In the consolation final of the 200 IM, Natalie Zaravella logged a personal best time of 2:03.97 to finish 12th.  This is the third All-American certificate of Zaravella's career. She did not compete in this event at last year's NCAA meet. Her previous best time in the event was 2:05.15 set earlier this season at the Miami Invitational.

Denison came very close to winning their sixth event national title in the 200 medley relay until Emory's Megan Taylor posted a strong anchor to secure the win for the Eagles.  Denison's foursome of Angela Le, Kustritz, Maddie Hopkins and Casey Kirby touched with a varsity record time of 1:40.76.  Emory won the event in 1:40.12.

The previous varsity record of 1:40.96 was set earlier this season by Kirby, Kustritz, Hopkins and Gabriella Nutter at the Miami Invitational.

Denison will return to the IU Natatorium on Thursday, March 22 for the 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, one-meter diving, and the 400 medley relay.  Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.
