AKRON, Ohio-- Denison women's swimming & diving opened the 2018-19 season on Friday night at the Akron Zips Classic. Denison totaled 81 points in the first of three sessions that will take place over the next two days at the Ocasek Natatorium.
In the 200 IM, Kustritz placed 10th with a time of 2:07.06. Devin Javens placed 24th in 2:11.57. In the 500 freestyle, Hannah Rusinko led Denison with a 20th place finish in 5:08.45. First-year Grace Kacmarek followed in 29th place with a time of 5:16.49.
The final individual event of the night, Hopkins and Kirby finished 18th and 20th respectively in the 50 free. Hopkins touched in 24.57 while Kirby followed in 24.63.
The night was capped off by a 10th place finish in the 800 free relay as Chiappe, Caroline Colville, Kacmarek and Rusinko posted a time of 7:56.14.
Akron, the defending MAC champions, lead the field with 379 points. Miami is second at 285 followed by Cincinnati (144), Xavier (88), Denison (81) and Cleveland State (68). On Saturday, the Big Red will compete in six events in the morning session (10 a.m.) and close with seven events at 5 p.m.
