Women's Tennis suffers loss to D-I Towson

ORLANDO, Fla. – Denison women's tennis opened their spring trip with a 7-0 loss to Division I Towson University on Monday afternoon at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Entering the day with a 6-4 record in No. 1 doubles, Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup fell to Towson's No. 1 pairing of Lucy Williams and Yevgeniya Shusterman, 6-3, while Lucy Gloninger and Barbora Vasilkova defeated DU's Megan Hickey and Ashley Hammons, 6-2, on the No. 2 court.

In singles play, Alsup lost the first set of No. 2 singles, 6-3, to Shusterman, and after forcing a tie-breaker in the second set, the Tigers were able to seal the win, 6-3, 7-6 (7-6). In No. 6 singles, Charlotte Purnode took the first set from Claire Bedi, 6-0, but lost the next two sets, 6-4, 10-8.

The Big Red will return to the USTA National Campus on Tuesday, March 20 for a matchup with Colorado College at 8 a.m.
