Women's Tennis storms past Shawnee State

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's tennis earned their eighth team win of the dual season on Saturday afternoon following a 9-0 sweep over Shawnee State University at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.

On the doubles court, the Big Red took control early when Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup improved to 10-5 on the season in No. 1 doubles, defeating Jessica Willard and Abby Brinkman, 8-1.

A perfect 8-0 victory for Ashley Hammons and Megan Hickey followed for DU in No. 2 singles over Caleigh O'Neal and Alexandrea Hettinger, while Madeline Hart and Morgan Arroyo took No. 3 play, 8-1, over the Bears' Caitlyn McKell and Michaela Garner.

In singles play, Hawley started the action off with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Willard in No. 1 singles, and Charlotte Purnode continued the trend in No. 2 singles, defeating Brinkman, 6-0, 6-2.

Devin Gramley garnered a pair of 6-1 set wins on the No. 3 court over O'Neal, while Courtney Brown and Natalie Overby swept the competition, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Sophomore Lucy Deal finalized the victory in No. 6 play, defeating Leen Heresh, 6-1, 6-0.

The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, April 7 when they host John Carroll University for a 10 a.m. start.
