GRANVILLE, Ohio – On a day where the Big Red honored senior Carol Vitellas for her contributions to the program, Denison women's tennis improved to 9-7 overall on the season after an 8-1 victory over John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.

DU's dominance started in doubles play where the No. 1 combo of Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup defeated JCU's top pairing of Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini, 8-3. The trend continued in No. 2 doubles as Megan Hickey and Madeline Hart bested Jennifer Stroyne and Carlye Campagna, 8-3, while Ashley Hammons and Charlotte Purnode finished the doubles sweep on the third court with an 8-2 victory over Allyssa Krupp and Skye Harwood.

In singles play, the Blue Streaks took No. 1 singles as O'Malley, the nation's 19th ranked player, defeated Hawley 6-2, 6-1, but the Big Red rebounded in No. 2 play when Alsup tallied a pair of 6-1 set victories over John Carroll's Rini.

Denison secured the final four matches of the night to capture the team win, headlined by a third-set tiebreaking win from Vitellas over Stroyne in No. 6 singles. After Stroyne took the first set with a 6-2 win, the senior countered with a 6-4 win in the second set to send it to a third and final set. Vitellas edged the competition in the final set with a 10-8 victory.

The Big Red will wrap up their four-match homestand on Tuesday, April 10 when they host Wittenberg University at 1 p.m.
