GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's tennis moves to 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play following a 9-0 sweep of Wittenberg University on Tuesday afternoon at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville.
The Big Red began their hot start on the doubles courts with a No. 1 doubles victory from Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup, defeating Sarah Gallup and Harunya Ravindran 8-1. The No. 2 pairing of Megan Hickey and Ashley Hammons took down Kathleen McGuff and Carli Milano, 8-2, while Courtney Brown and Madeline Hart finalized the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Sarah Frisch and Alivia Livesay on the No. 3 court.
In singles play, the dominance continued for DU as Alsup made her first appearance of the dual season in No. 1 singles, defeating Milano, 6-2, 6-0. Refusing to drop a set during singles play, Hickey continued the trend on the No. 2 court, defeating Gallup in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, and Hart took No. 3 singles over Ravindran, 6-1, 6-0.
Following a 6-1, 6-0 victory for Hammons in No. 4 play, Charlotte Purnode earned a win in No. 5 singles, defeating McGuff, 6-1, 6-0, while Devin Gramley improved to 3-2 on the season in No. 6 singles as she handed a 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Wittenberg's Zandrea Simpson.
The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, April 14 as they travel to Greencastle, Ind. for a 9 a.m. match with DePauw University.
