WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Denison women's track and field opened their 2019 schedule on Saturday as they competed in the Dave Lehman Open at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

Sophomore Anna Vrancken highlighted DU's performances in the throw events after logging a new personal best in the weight throw on a final distance of 44'2.50" to finish sixth overall. Vrancken's new PR also ranks her second all-time on Denison's top 10 list.

Vrancken was followed in the weight throw by Leah Ackerman in 14th place with a final distance of 36'7" (11.15 meters) and Becca Skolnick who logged a throw of 29' (8.84 meters), good enough for 23rd.

Vrancken and Ackerman then went back-to-back in the shot put after Vrancken placed 15th (34'5.75") and Ackerman landed in 16th place (33'9.50"). Freshman Ashley Schmoll continued the trend in 17th place with a maximum distance of 33'1.25" (10.09 meters).

Danni Gutelius logged another top 10 finish for DU when she placed fourth overall in the high jump event with a final height of 5'0.25" (1.53 meters). Senior Mackenzie Mason also went for a top 10 performance, placing seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 9'3.75" (2.84 meters).

On the track, the Big Red were paced in the 3,000-meter run by freshman Meagan Balch and her eighth-place finish in 11:01.87. Fellow freshman Emily Willson finished in 11th at 11:24.42 and Sarah Radziewicz followed in 12th with a time of 11:27.48. The distance events were rounded out by freshman Stefanie Rodrigues and her time of 3:07.466 to finish the 800 meter run in 20th place.

In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Allie Holmes logged a time of 1:09.32 to finish in 13th place while junior Sydney Lerda clocked in .35 seconds behind her in 14th with a time of 1:09.67. The pair also competed in the 200-meter dash with Holmes placing 30th overall (31.00) and Lerda landing in 32nd (31.98). Gutelius led the pack in 27th at 30.14.

Denison will look to build on their momentum next Saturday, January 26 when they travel to the College of Wooster to take part in the 2019 Fighting Scots Invitational.
