GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison men's swimming & diving is ranked No. 1 and the Big Red women's swimming & diving team is ranked No. 2 in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America/TYR Division III Preseason Top-25 poll.
The Denison men captured its fifth national championship since 2011 last season. They totaled 325 points in the preseason poll outdistancing the closest competitor by 17 points.
The women's team totaled 339 points in their preseason poll and were only five points behind first-place Emory. Last year the Big Red finished third at the NCAA Division III Championship, marking the program's 12th consecutive top-four national finish. Denison's women's swimming & diving captured Denison's very first NCAA Division III national championship in 2001.
Both squads kick off the 2019-20 season this weekend when they compete at the Akron Zip Classic on Oct. 18-19 in Akron, Ohio. Denison is the lone Division III institution that was invited to this weekend's classic at the Ocasek Natatorium. The Big Red will compete against Miami University, Cleveland State, Xavier University and the University of Akron at the two-day meet.
On Friday, teams will compete in the 400 medley relay, the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 800 free relay. They return on Saturday for two sessions. The first begins at 10 a.m. and includes the 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and the 100 back. The second session starts at 5 p.m. with the 200 medley relay, the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and the 400 free relay.
Tickets for each individual session are $6. All-session passes can also be purchased for $15.
