CLEVELAND, Ohio-- Denison junior defensive end Nate Keirn was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Big Red to a 42-0 shutout win over Allegheny on Sept. 15.
A three-year starter from Medina, Ohio, Keirn posted six tackles (four solo, two assisted), 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles-for-loss. Keirn also posted a pair of hurries on Allegheny starting quarterback Logan Lee.
It marked the first shutout by a Denison team since a 45-0 victory over Oberlin in 2015. The defense held Allegheny to 203 yards of total offense. The Gators reached the Denison red zone only once and Allegheny's quarterback was sacked four times.
Denison is 1-1 and will travel to Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday (Sept. 22) for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Yeomen.
