CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison football was recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon when junior wide receiver Peyton Vining was named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Helping the Big Red post a 49-0 shutout of Oberlin on Saturday at Piper Stadium, Vining led Denison in receiving for the fifth-straight game after totaling a season-best 139 yards on four receptions and a touchdown. Vining also opened the scoring for Denison when he hauled in a 41-yard touchdown grab from quarterback Drew Dawkins on the second drive of the game for DU.
Vining currently leads the NCAC in receiving yards (502), touchdown catches (5), and ranks in the top-10 with 19 receptions. A native of Bradenton, Fla., Vining has also tallied an impressive 26.42 yards per catch this season, which ranks as the sixth-most in all of NCAA Division III.
Vining & Co. will return to the gridiron this Saturday, Oct. 19 when they travel to the College of the Wooster for the 25th installment of the Battle for the Old Red Lantern. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
