GRANVILLE, Ohio – Thanks to four first half goals for the Big Red, Denison field hockey secured their 10th-straight victory on Thursday afternoon as they defeated Ohio Wesleyan University, 4-2, at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

Outshooting the Battling Bishops 9-0 in the first half, DU took an early lead in the sixth minute as senior Emily Marlatt crossed a free ball in front of the goal and freshman Charlotte Godfrey connected on it for her fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

In the 24th minute, Denison's Abby Scully came charging from the left side of the field to beat Ohio Wesleyan's goalkeeper Paige Ross one-on-one for her third goal of the year, and to put DU up by two scores. Godfrey then answers for her second goal of the day in the 31st minute as she scores unassisted from the right side of the field to go up 3-0.

The Big Red totals its fourth goal of the first half in the 35th minute of play when freshman Michelle Kabaira storms up the field to score with just seconds remaining in the half. Denison kept their 4-0 advantage heading into intermission.

DU combined for the first five shots of the second half, but Ohio Wesleyan connected on a penalty shot from Alexis Roberts in the 54th minute to give her 10 goals on the season and to cut into OWU's deficit, 4-1. Erin Greer would later score for the Battling Bishops as time expired, but Denison's first half lead was too much to compete with as the Big Red continue their winning streak with a 4-2 victory.

In goal, Denison's Kerry Lawler and Teya Adams played 35 minutes each for a full match effort, compiling two saves in the process. For Ohio Wesleyan, Ross and Alycia Goins totaled four saves in 70 minutes of play.

Godfrey led the match with two goals scored, while she and junior Lucy Pearsall tied for a match-best with four shots taken for the Big Red.

The 10-game winning streak is Denison's longest since they put together 13-straight victories back in 2013 when they finished the season 17-2.

The Big Red will return to Deeds Field-Piper Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 21 when they play host to Wittenberg University for a start time of 12 p.m.
