GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison field hockey ran its winning streak to 12 following a 2-0 shutout victory over Earlham College at Piper Stadium.  Denison improves to 14-3 and 11-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  The victory sets the stage for a showdown with first-place Kenyon College on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Granville with the winner likely walking away with the NCAC championship.

For the third time, this season the Big Red held its opponent to zero shot attempts.  Meanwhile, the Big Red offense was busy taking 15 shots and five penalty corners in the first half.  Earlham goalie Camile Van Der Vaart and the Quaker backline did a nice job denying Denison at the doorstep. Denison also survived playing five minutes shorthanded after Michelle Kabaira was issued a yellow card in the fifth minute of play.

DU finally broke out in the 45th minute of play when Charlotte Godfrey got out on a breakaway and crossed a pass to Charlotte Happel who was coming down the middle of the circle.  Happel got enough of the pass to send it into the back of the cage for her 13th goal of the season.

In the final seconds of the second half, the Big Red was awarded its 17th penalty corner attempt.  After Jen Durbin's injection, Emily Marlatt sent a slap shot from the top of the circle into the cage as time expired, setting the final at 2-0.

Denison outshot Earlham 27-0 and held a 17-0 advantage in penalty corners.  Van Der Vaart posted 12 saves for the Quakers who drop to 6-9 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

Denison's 12-match winning streak ties for the second-longest winning streak in program history.  The 1984 squad won 12 consecutive matches on their way to an 18-2-1 record.  The varsity record for consecutive victories is 13, set in 1980 and 2013.
