CARLISLE, Pa.--  Denison field hockey opened the season with a 2-1 comeback victory over Dickinson College on Friday afternoon at Biddle Field.

The Big Red entered the 2019 season in the others receiving votes section of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Top-20 Coaches Poll and eight minutes into the season they found themselves trailing 1-0 after a goal by Red Devil forward Sydney Engler.

The 2019 season also marks some rule changes to the game.  Gone are the 25-minute halves and running clocks on penalty corners.  Instead, teams will play four, 15-minute quarters with clock stoppages on all penalty corner attempts.

With under one minute to play in the second quarter, Denison garnered back-to-back corners and on the second try, AC Veith connected with Charlotte Godfrey for the equalizer, sending the two teams into the halftime intermission tied at 1-1.

Nine minutes into the third quarter, Denison took a 2-1 lead on Charlotte Happel's goal that was assisted by Maya Tumiwa.

In the fourth quarter, Dickinson pieced together two shots and one penalty corner but failed to tie the game.

Adams finished with seven saves in goal for Denison.  Godfrey led the way with four shot attempts and one goal.  Dickinson got five saves from Meeder in the loss.

Denison (1-0) returns to action on Saturday when they face Elizabethtown at 12 p.m.
