GRANVILLE, Ohio – Charlotte Happel and Lily Baylis each tallied a pair of goals as Denison field hockey posted a dominant 6-0 victory over the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

Outshooting the Scots 24-6 on the day and taking nine of the match's 10 penalty corners, the Big Red opened the scoring in the first quarter when junior Charlotte Godfrey capitalized on a coast-to-coast breakaway that turned into her sixth goal of the season.

In the 26th minute of play, Wooster's Katie Agatucci looked to tie the match at 1-1 when she entered the shooting circle all alone, but a diving save from DU's Teya Adams kept the Scots off the board as the score remained 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Abby Scully added to the Denison lead with a shot from just outside the Wooster cage, giving the Big Red a 2-0 advantage entering halftime.

Denison began the second with five straight penalty corners and five consecutive shots from Scully and Rachel Kelsey, but it was Happel who tallied her first goal of the day at 36:56 when a rebounded shot from Scully was sent to Happel for the finish and to give DU a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the 1-2 punch of Happel and Scully answered again for the Big Red when Happel accepted a pass from Scully on the right side of the arc and buried a hard shot for her second of the match and to go ahead, 4-0.

In the final four minutes of play, Baylis added two more goals for Denison, the first off a breakaway and the second off a rebounded shot from Happel. The win moved the Big Red to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Wooster dropped to 3-8 and 0-3 in conference play.

Scully and Happel highlighted DU's production on Saturday with Scully adding a match-high six shots to her goal and two assists, while Happel posted four shots on goal with her two scores and lone assist. Godfrey tallied a goal and an assist on her four shots and Maya Tumiwa finished with three shots on goal. In goal, Adams earned her eighth win of the season as she collected one save in a full match effort.

Wooster's Caitlyn O'Connor led the team with three shots while Agatucci added a shot on goal. Katie Shideler finished with a match-best 10 saves in 60 minutes of action in the cage.

Denison will return to action next Thursday, Oct. 17 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio for an NCAC showdown with Ohio Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
