DELAWARE, Ohio--  Denison field hockey avenged an early non-conference loss to Ohio Wesleyan with a 2-0 victory over the Battling Bishops on Thursday at Selby Stadium. The win moves Denison to 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic conference and 9-3 overall with five matches to play.

Denison took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the second quarter when Madeleine Hunt scored off a penalty corner attempt that was pushed in by AC Veith to Abby Scully at the top of the circle. Scully took a shot from the top that was tipped to Veith to the sick of Hunt for the goal.

The Big Red added a second goal with two minutes left in the third quarter as Charlotte Godfrey took a shot from the top of the circle that was assisted by Scully.

Despite the 2-0 advantage, Ohio Wesleyan was on the attack down the stretch.  OWU took 14 of its 18 shots I the second half with 10 shots coming in the fourth quarter.  Denison goalie Teya Adams made six of her season-high eight saves in the second half. It also took a defensive save by Rachel Kelsey to keep Ohio Wesleyan off the scoreboard.

Hunt and Godfrey led Denison in shots with three each.  Scully followed with two.  Ohio Wesleyan got five shots apiece from Madisyn Bunke and Astrid Koek and two saves from goalie Marie Overing.

The Big Red will host Allegheny on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 11 a.m.  Prior to the game, Denison will recognize its three senior members, Ali Gakenheimer, Charlotte Happel, and Caroline Little.
