WOOSTER, Ohio -- Danyon Hempy scored 23 and Reece Dupler chipped in 20 as the No. 21 College of Wooster Fighting Scots handed the Big Red a 92-59 loss on Wednesday night at Timkin Gymnasium. The Scots improved to 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Denison falls to 5-10 and 2-7 in conference play.
The Big Red only trailed by three, 35-32, with 1:47 remaining in the first half, but the Scots used a 32-6 scoring run to pull away and turned 21 Denison turnovers into 33 points for Wooster. The Scots also outscored DU 49-27 in the second half.
Wooster tallied four players in double-figures, including Hempy's game-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Dupler totaled his 20 points on 8-of-15 on field goals, along with 4-of-4 at the line, four rebounds and two assists. Keonn Scott added 16 off the bench and Dontae Williams chipped in 13 points and four boards.
Denison received 11 points in 22 minutes of action from Matt Doyle, who also added four assists and two rebounds. Freshman Gabe Bergeron followed with eight points and three rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench while Fred Brou tallied seven points.
The Big Red will return to Livingston Gymnasium this Saturday, January 19 as they host No. 14 Wabash College for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
