WOOSTER, Ohio—Kevin Cheng scored a career-high 25 points but it wasn't enough to push Denison past the College of Wooster as the Fighting Scots prevailed 93-72 on Wednesday night at Timken Gymnasium.
The Scots avenged a loss to the Big Red in Granville last morning by getting off to a fast start. Wooster shot 55 percent from the field in the first half and got 17 points from Dontae Williams in the opening stanza. Wooster took a 45-23 lead into the locker room and never looked back.
In the second half, Cheng scored 17 of his game-high 25 points by going 6-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Jack Coulter scored nine of his 15 points in the second half by going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Matt Gerics also reached double figures for Denison as he finished with 10 points in 17 minutes.
Williams finished with 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting for Wooster. Trenton Tipton and Danyon Hempy followed with 21 points as the trio accounted for 67 of the team's 93 points.
Denison drops to 8-14 and 5-10 in conference play while Wooster improves to 17-5 and 11-4 in the NCAC. DU returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Allegheny for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
