TUNICA RESORTS, Miss.--  Denison opened the Rhodes College Fall Classic from Tunica National with a 36-hole total of 591.  That has them in fourth place out of the stacked field of 20 Division III colleges and institutions.

Denison was led by senior Christian Early who fired not one, but two four-under-par rounds of 68.  Early's previous career low was 67 set last year at Carnegie Mellon.  In 2018-19 he set the Denison single-season scoring average mark with a 73.60.  Early is just one stroke off the medalist pace set by Huntingdon's Drew Mathers after rounds of 65 and 70.

Marc Mitchell followed with a 71 and 73 to tie for 11th overall.  Ben Scherman followed his 79 in round one with a 76 in the afternoon.  Will Grady also posted a pair of rounds in the 70s, posting a 79 in the morning and a 77 in the afternoon.  Connor Holleran followed with rounds of 82 and 77.

The Rhodes Fall Classic will wrap up on Monday with a single, 18-hole round beginning at 8:15 a.m.  The Big Red is five strokes behind third-place Webster, 12 shots behind second-place Southwestern and 21 off the lead held by Huntingdon.
