Zach Walsh scored four goals and Chapin Speidel scored three goals and added three assists as the 11th ranked Denison Big Red closed out its spring break with a 21-7 win over Centre in Charlottesville, Va.
The six points for Speidel was a career-high and the four goals by Walsh matched a career-high set earlier this year against Washington and Lee. Following Walsh and Speidel in the scoring department were seniors Davis Lukens and Alex Hardt, who each scored three goals to go along with two assists.
Senior attack Cory Couture notched his second hat-trick of the season while moving his season total for goals scored to 16. He also chipped in one assist. Sophomore Eddie Vita contributed one goal and two assists while first-year Will Koontz posted a pair of assists.
Denison goalie Nick Petracca recorded two saves while allowing two goals and Gregg Shannon picked up one save during his time in cage. On the other side, Centre's goalies combined for 16 saves and Connor Stubbs led the way with two goals and two assists.
The Big Red controlled the ball through most of the contest thanks to a 17-of-19 performance by Chip Phillips in face-off situations. Phillips led all players with 11 ground balls in the game
DU improves to 6-0 while Centre falls to 4-1. The Big Red will open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday (March 24) with a 1 p.m. face-off against the Fighting Scots in Wooster, Ohio.
