GRANVILLE, Ohio--  No. 13 Denison outscored Wittenberg 6-1 in the fourth quarter, staving off a Tigers upset bid with a 17-10 win on Senior Day at Piper Stadium.

Eleven Big Red seniors played their final regular season home game and early on it looked like it would be remembered for all the wrong reasons.  Denison took a 5-1 lead into the second quarter, but seven saves by Tiger goalie Max Cavellier in the quarter combined with five Wittenberg goals sent the Tigers into the intermission with a 6-5 lead.

In the third, Wittenberg's Noah Moderwell scored 90 seconds into the period to put their team on top, 7-5.  Brooks Davy and Owen Armstrong followed with a pair of goals, but Moderwell pumped in his third goal of the game to keep his team on top, 8-7.

The Big Red won the ensuing faceoff and with 9:01 left in the quarter and the Tigers were flagged for a 30-second penalty for being offsides.  DU capitalized on the penalty, as Spencer Butler scored on an assist by Peter Pittroff.

Three minutes later, another 30-second penalty was called on Wittenberg and this time, Chris Haimbaugh converted the man-up opportunity on another pass from Pittroff.

With 2:47 to play in the third, Wittenberg's Matthew Welch tied the game but Denison hung two unanswered goals on the Tigers to end the quarter, allowing the Big Red to take an 11-9 lead into the fourth.

The final period was all Denison as they outshot Wittenberg 16-3 while winning 5-of-8 faceoffs.

Pittroff ended the day with nine points on three goals and six assists, moving him into third place on Denison's career points list with 228.

Davy led all scorers with five goals and one assist.  Armstrong notched a hat-trick on six shots while Butler ended the day with two goals and four assists.

Wills Hutras led the wings with seven ground balls.  Steven Villacorta was 16-of-26 (.615) on faceoffs. He also finished with five ground balls.

Wittenberg was led by Moderwell's four goals while Cavellier finished with 17 saves between the pipes.  Denison's Reeves McKenney reached double-digits with 10 saves while facing 20 shots.

Denison's senior class consists of Owen Armstrong, Spencer Butler, Brooks Davy, Henry DeCamp, Peter Doering, Chris Haimbaugh, Patrick Lunt, Aidan Maher, Tommy McMaster, Will Tully, and Jake Waxter.  They boast a career record of 64-10 with two NCAC Championships, three NCAC Tournament championships and three NCAA Tournament berths, highlighted by a Final Four appearance in 2017 and an Elite Eight appearance in 2016.

The Big Red will close out the regular season next week when they travel to Hiram on Tuesday (April 23) and Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday (April 27).
