Miller's PK keeps Denison's postseason hopes alive

HIRAM, Ohio--  Adrian Miller successfully converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute, propelling Denison to a 2-1 victory over Hiram College.  The victory keeps Denison's postseason hopes alive at 4-2-2 in conference play.  Denison currently has 14 points and sits in fourth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference with one match remaining. The top four teams advance to next week's conference tournament.

Things got off to a rocky start for the Big Red when Hiram's Giovanni Meza scored on an assist by Bryce Harding just 2:10 into the match.

Denison didn't tie the match until the 50th minute of play when Leo Herard posted an unassisted goal.  The Big Red kept up the offensive pressure and it paid off in the final seconds of regulation.  Denison was awarded a penalty kick after first-year forward Braden Adamson was fouled inside the box.  DU sent Miller to the PK mark where he delivered the game-winning score with 84 seconds remaining in the second half.

It marked the second PK of the season for Denison and the first in Miller's career at DU.  He has scored four goals this season and leads the squad with two game-winning goals.

After the final buzzer, Hiram goalkeeper CJ Keith was issued a red card for voicing his displeasure to the referee.  He will sit out Hiram's final match of the season at Wittenberg on Saturday.

DU held a 16-10 lead in shots and an 8-2 lead in corner kicks.  Dylan Brown posted three saves in 90 minutes while Keith posted nine saves for the Terriers.

Denison will travel to Ohio Wesleyan for its season finale.  A win over the No. 22 Battling Bishops and the Big Red is in the tournament with 17 points.  A tie or a loss against Ohio Wesleyan would result in Denison needing help in the form of a win by Wabash over Wooster and perhaps a victory by Oberlin over DePauw.

Denison's match versus Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday (Oct. 27) is the final regular season match of the season in the NCAC so the Big Red will know where they stand prior to kickoff in Delaware.
