CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Richie Kurlich was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week on Monday afternoon following a second-place finish for the Big Red in their season opener at the Akron Zips Classic this past weekend.

Finishing the weekend with four championship finishes in the top five among Division I opponents from Miami, Cleveland State, and Xavier, Kurlich's best showing came on Saturday night when he placed first overall in the 200 breaststroke with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:00.52. In the 100 breast that morning, the sophomore finished in second place on a final time of 56.69. He also placed third overall in the 200 IM on Friday night after clocking in at 1:53.75.

Kurlich also teamed up with Liam Picozzi, Kymani Senior, and Drake Horton to compete in the 400 medley relay where they placed third on a final mark of 3:24.00. The quartet also joined forces in the 200 medley relay on Saturday and took fifth place at 1:34.05.

Kurlich and the Big Red will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to the University of Cincinnati for a dual meet with the Bearcats. Diving will begin at 10 a.m. with the swimming events to follow at 1 p.m.
