Casey Cempre was awarded this year's Don Hunsinger Award as the top male student-athlete in the NCAC.

Recent Denison University graduate Casey Cempre has been selected as the recipient of the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference Don Hunsinger Award.

Cempre, who was a four-year member of the Big Red's men's tennis team, capped off his career as a four-time All-NCAC performer, which included a spot on the first team in 2013. An NCAC Player of the Week selection in both 2013 and 2014, Cempre leaves a legacy of being one of the most accomplished doubles players in school history after tying the single-season record of 21 doubles wins in 2014 with teammate Andrew Marczak and finishing his career tied for eighth on the program's all-time list with 61 doubles victories. In 2011-12, Cempre was also awarded the Midwest Sportsmanship Award by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

Along with his numerous athletics achievements, Cempre was also recognized as one of the top student-athletes on campus over the last four years, culminating his career by being named Denison's Larry L. Scheiderer Award which goes annually to the top senior male scholar athlete. Cempre graduated from Denison this spring with a 3.74 grade-point-average as a Biochemistry major and a Mathematics minor. Along with numerous departmental awards for biochemistry, Cempre also received several other academic honors throughout the years, including acception into the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society, being named to the Dean's List on five separate occasions and being declared a James T. Glerum Jr. Top-50 Scholar Athlete in each of the last three years.

Cempre was also actively involved in both the campus and local communities during his stay at Denison. On campus, he served as the scholarship chair of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was the president of the Denison Chemical Society in the 2014-15 academic year. While completing a pair of summer research assistantships, he earned the Miller Health Science Scholar award in 2014 and the Anderson Summer Scholar award in 2013. In addition, Cempre also made contributions in the local community through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
